A river boat plies the Danube in front of the stately Parliament Building in Budapest, Hungary, one of Europe's oldest legislative buildings. Inaugurated in 1896, the Gothic Revival building is the second largest parliament in Europe and a Hungarian icon. The Danube splits the historic city into two parts -- hilly Buda, which dates from the 13th century, and newer, flatter Pest. Seven major bridges connect the two sides of the city, which is known for its coffee culture and centuries-old public baths.
